Nathan Cooper is in his sixth year at Montgomery Blair, coaching the offensive line. He joined the Blair staff in February of 2013 after spending two years coaching at Richard Montgomery High School.
As a 2004 graduate of Northwest High School, Coach Cooper has extensive ties with Blazer head coach Andrew Fields, who coordinated the offense for Cooper's 2002 state semi-finalist Jaguar team as a junior and his quarterfinalist team during his senior campaign.
"I have watched Nate grow both as a player and a human being. He is a passionate coach who will get the best out of his guys, and a better person. Our kids will thrive under his leadership," said Fields.
Cooper began his coaching career in 2005, working with the offensive and defensive lines for the youth league RFL. After a successful three years, he was promoted to JV offensive line coach at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 2008.
In 2009, Cooper had the opportunity to coach the JV offensive and defensive lines at his alma mater, Northwest High School.
2010 saw Cooper returning to the RFL, this time as head coach for Churchill High School's middle school team.. During the 2010, Cooper took the Bulldogs through an undefeated season, winning the league title.
In 2011, Cooper was once again promoted, this time to the varsity ranks at Richard Montgomery High School, where he coached the varsity offensive and defensive lines. When Cooper arrived in 2011, the Rockets were coming off a winless season. Over the next two seasons, they would thrive under Cooper's coaching, winning 11 games between 2011 and 2012, and narrowly missing the playoffs.
Under the tutelage of Cooper, several Blazers have received All-County recognition and college opportunities, including Garret Kapstein-O'Brien ('15), Nick Dayhoff ('15), Sam Norwood ('15), Wellington Uzamere ('17), and Brady Callahan ('18).
Coach Cooper resides in Germantown, Maryland and is employed by Montgomery County government as an equipment operator. An avid singer and musican, he is the founder and leader of his band. Cooper is also an active member in his church.
