Springbrook Dominates Montgomery Blair, Avenge 2012 Loss
Silver Spring, MD - In a game that many predicted Montgomery Blair to win, the Springbrook Blue Devils outplayed, outphysicaled, and outclassed the Montgomery Blair Blazers 26-6.
"They were bigger, faster, and hungrier than our guys," commented head coach Andrew Fields. "It was clear who was more focused and who wanted to win. They beat us in every phase of the game."
The Blue Devils would draw first blood, scoring a on a 9 yard run early in the first quarter. They would strike again just minutes later on a 12 yard touchdown strike to take a 13-0 first quarter lead.
The Blazers would threaten to cut that lead in half late in the second quarter, but turned the ball over on downs at the 4 yard line.
After exchanging several punts and halftime, the Blue Devils would once again find paydirt. On 4th and 17, an impromptu broken play led to a 24 yard touchdown throw and catch, and Springbrook took a commanding 20-0 lead.
Darron Cumberbatch (14 carries, 83 yards) would cut the lead to 20-6 with his 15 yard touchdown scamper, and sophomore Chris Green's interception on the ensuing drive held out hope for the Blazers. In the end, however, the Blazers could not gain control of the line of scrimmage, and ultimately the game.
